The Australian Umbrella Tree is a fast-growing shrub that is easy to care for. It needs bright mostly indirect sunlight. However, morning or evening sunlight can be beneficial, but keep it under 2 hours of direct sunlight. If it does not have the proper amount of sunlight it will suffer from rapid leaf loss.

It is best if the Australian Umbrella Tree gets water once the top third of the soil is dry. One should remain careful to not overwater as overwatering will cause root rot. Signs that you are overwatering your plant are brown mushy spots on the stems, root rot, and yellowing lower leaves. Signs that you are underwatering your plant are dry spots on the leaves, yellowing older leaves, and stunted growth. This shrub grows rapidly. Extra steps should be taken to keep the plant in its designated area if planted in the ground as it is invasive.
